Fighting Global Poverty by Empowering Girls: A lecture by Dr. Auma Obama

Dr. Obama advises on and coordinates all activities related to the CARE Sports for Social Change Initiative, including the development of a Sport for Social Change Network ‐ a global initiative with a presence in Brazil, South Africa and the United Kingdom. The program promotes sports as a tool for social change within the relevant program areas of Girls Empowerment, Education Attainment and Equality, HIV/AIDS Education and Prevention, Conflict Resolution and Peace Building as well as Life Skills Development for At‐Risk Youth. Sport is used to influence positive behavior change. Dr. Obama is pioneering this new Initiative in East Africa and has been with CARE since July 2007.
